Unless you happen to be living under a really, really, REALLY big rock, at the stroke of midnight, September 20, 2011, the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, was repealed, thus taking the world's most powerful military in an ethical human rights direction that, quite honestly, it should have traveled many years before this day.
On this day, as one anonymous sailor stated, the pictures of his pretend girlfriend were replaced, without fear of condemnation or harassment, by pictures of his 'same-sex' life partner. On this day, he no longer had to hide his life, act as though he were a 'normal' hetrosexual male, a hetrosexual SOLDIER!
I don't ever remember my 'normal' husband being told not to talk about me, or pretending that I didn't exist, for fear of being kicked out of the military. I don't remember protests about our 'normal' marriage, or him joining the military as a 'normal' hetrosexual male???
As 'about bloody time' this day is, I still find it incredibly frustrating that, this was ever even an issue! Was it not incredibly hypocritical that this country proudly sent our soldiers to war torn countries to fight and die for human rights, yet on home soil, those same soldiers, were neglected of having any?
Who, are we as a 'civilized' human race to ever condemn our own kind for a matter that, simply should not be one?
Naturally, the religious argument of homosexuality, or the act of, being a sin, is at the forefront of 'many' people's minds, but, from what I know, we are all God's creatures, love the idea or hate it, it's a fact! I can think of far more abominable acts of human kind, that are forgiven every day, other than, a man just loving another man!
Oh, and as for this absolutely ignorant 'hearsay' discussion filtering around the web, that 'if homosexuality is allowed in the military, then people should be allowed to marry animals'...firstly, I say, you ignorant dumb a*ses and, secondly, you're right: some spouses are animals, animals who abuse, cheat, beat, rape their spouses and children!
Who someone chooses to love is none of my because if that someone is willing to selflessly die for my country, so that the 'rest of us' are protected from harm, and continue to live with the freedoms we do now, then in my eyes, that someone is a true military hero, a soldier of the US Armed Forces.
Crikey!
Love it! That is true dedication to your country when you will fight and die for the same people that think you don't deserve any rights. I'm sick of people saying that marriage is between a man and a woman. Well I'm sorry, but not everyone believes in the bible or God or any of that so why should they follow the rules of a book they don't believe in? I don't bash Christians, so I don't expect them to bash me. I'd rather have 2 happy gay parents than 2 miserable straight ones.. People need to think about what people go through being gay.. Do you really think this is the life they would choose if they felt they had a choice? Most people would'nt want to deal with torture for being who the really are if they could choose. So they pretend to be someone else and either marry, have children and wind up hurting them in the end for "coming out" or hold it inside until they can't take it anymore and kill themselves.. Tell me haters..... Would you feel the same way if your child was gay? Or will you change your mind when it's too late? We'll have thousands of "Prayers for Bobby" on our hands that's for sure...
ReplyDeleteThanks Melissa...and can I just say, that you may be the fastest typer on the planet...I just posted this :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, I'd rather two happy gay parents versus the MILLIONS of miserable straight ones! Thank you again
LOL! I'm in school.. I have to type fast or I will be at this computer typing all day! P.S. I type over 11,000 KPM ;)
ReplyDeleteI love your comments about this issue! I could not have said it better myself. What difference does it make! I love my husband with all my heart and if another man loves another man the same way then what difference does it make. IMO they will probably be better at their jobs as well because they won't have to constantly worry about hiding who they are and what they do outside of work and they won't be distracted by the fact that someone might find out and that they might lose their job.
ReplyDeleteI am TOTALLY for this and I am so VERY, VERY happy that they finally passed this. As you said, it is long over-due!!!!!!!!!! :)
Well said!
ReplyDeleteSarah. Thank you for your comment and exactly, I'm hoping the workplace is like any other, carefree about anyone's business in that regard.
ReplyDeleteVery well said! I couldn't agree with you more.
